Half of the pieces have a picture on them, the other half have a letter of the alphabet, written in upper and lower case, with the name of the matching object in Spanish, and the name of the object in English written below in smaller print. The name of the object is in English for learning purposes only; the words do not begin with the same letter in English and in Spanish. The pieces do not fit unless they are correctly matched. Our Comments: ABC Word Match is a fun way to reinforce the skills involved in letter recognition and sound/letter correspondence, while improving fine motor skills. In addition, this Spanish-language puzzle is terrific for promoting Spanish in any family, whether they are already fully bilingual or only hoping to improve their child’s basic vocabulary in Spanish. Although the manufacturer suggests these puzzles for children over 3 years, they can be presented as young as 2 years with parent participation. The puzzle can be made more or less difficult by presenting the pieces for one or many letters at a time. |
