Bilingual Journey´s Age Recommendation: 4-6 Description: This is a colorful softcover practice book aimed at teaching children phonics in Spanish. Each letter and sound combination is presented individually with a page of practice phrases. The vowels are presented first, then one consonant at a time. Each new page adds a new consonant, so that each page of phrases is more difficult than the previous, until the child is reading all the sound/vowel combinations. Our Comments: Cartilla Fonética is one of a number of resources that, used in combination, can help you teach your child to read in Spanish. Given the fact that most of us parents of bilingual children will need to do this without the support of the school system, we need all the resources available. Cartilla Fonética fills the gap left by most other reading resources: after the child knows the alphabet and the sounds that each letter makes, but before he is able to put the sounds together to form syllables and words (phonics). This book helps you teach your child to put the sounds together to start sounding out the words individually. While this book in itself will not teach your child to read, it goes a long way to providing some organization to the other methods you will use to teach phonics. |
